GAME #5 (winners’ bracket first round):
The Angels’ Ed Ott made things interesting with a two-out single in the top of the ninth inning. But when he tried to score from second on Butch Hobson’s subsequent single, Ott was thrown out at the plate by center fielder Chet Lemon, ending the contest. Tony Bernazard hit a two-run homer and Carlton Fisk had three hits for the White Sox. Britt Burns gave up just one run and five hits while striking out six in eight innings for the win. Lamarr Hoyt picked up the save despite his rough ninth inning. Ken Forsch took a complete-game loss for the Angels.
