Kansas City scored five runs in the first three innings to break out to an early lead. Five Royals had multiple hits, led by three apiece by George Brett, Amos Otis and John Wathan. Brett doubled twice and Wathan drove in three runs. Dennis Leonard threw a complete game for the win, scattering five hits. Toby Harrah hit a solo home run for the Indians. Bert Blyleven surrendered nine hits and six runs in five innings to take the loss.
