GAME #4 (winners’ bracket first round):
Mario Mendoza’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning broke a 1-1 tie and turned out to be the game-winner for the Rangers. Billy Sample led off the inning with a double and he was sacrificed to third to set up Mendoza. The Rangers outhit the Mariners 12-3 but those hits were scattered throughout the game. Doc Medich pitched a complete-game win for Texas, with seven strikeouts, three hits and one run allowed. Floyd Bannister gave up 12 hits and two runs in eight innings for the Mariners.
