GAME #10 (losers’ bracket):
The Twins scored twice in the top of the third on a two-run double by Mickey Hatcher, and never trailed. Minnesota’s John Castino made it 4-1 with a two-run homer in the top of the sixth, though the Blue Jays responded with back-to-back solo homers by John Mayberry and George Bell in the bottom of the sixth. A solo homer by the Twins’ Hosken Powell pushed the lead to 5-3 in the top of the seventh, and though Toronto would get one back in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Mayberry, that would be it for the scoring. Albert Williams went seven innings to get the win and Doug Corbett pitched the ninth for the save. Toronto’s Luis Leal was dealt the loss as the Blue Jays were the first team eliminated.
