GAME #12 (winners’ bracket second round):
Danny Darwin tossed a shutout for the Rangers, scattering four hits and three walks while striking out five. His defense turned three double plays. The Tigers didn’t get a base runner into scoring position until the ninth inning, putting runners on second and third with one out, but still couldn’t break up the shutout. The Rangers scored twice in the fourth and once in the fifth to go in front, then tacked on three insurance runs in the top of the ninth. Buddy Bell went 4-for-5 with three RBI. Jack Morris gave up 10 hits and five walks in 8 1/3 innings in the loss.
