GAME #14 (winners’ bracket second round):
The Reds broke out to a 6-0 lead, and through the Braves scored four times in the top of the eighth, Cincinnati held on to advance. For the Reds, Dave Concepcion had an RBI single in the first, Johnny Bench knocked a bases-loaded triple in the third and Ken Griffey provided a two-run single in the sixth. Five of Atlanta’s eight hits came in the eighth, with Bruce Benedict, Rafael Ramirez and Bob Horner all contributing RBI doubles. Tom Seaver got the win, going seven innings and allowing six hits and three runs. Tom Hume pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for the save. Atlanta’s Gaylord Perry gave up all six runs in 5 1/3 innings in the loss.
