Trailing 5-4 heading to the ninth, the Giants roughed up St. Louis closer Bruce Sutter for six runs on six hits to claim the victory. With one out and the bases loaded, San Francisco hit five straight singles. Milt May went 4-for-5 with a double. Reliever Fred Breining threw four scoreless innings to earn the win. The Cardinals’ Tom Herr had a double, a triple and two RBI.
