GAME #24 (losers’ bracket):
Lance Parrish led off the top of the 10th inning with a home run, giving the Tigers the margin needed for the extra-innings victory. The Tigers had previously taken the lead in the fourth when Steve Kemp doubled and was singled home by Richie Hebner. Philadelphia’s only run came in the seventh on an RBI double by Manny Trillo. The Phillies had four doubles, two of them by Trillo, but couldn’t advance any of those runners past second. Milt Wilcox (five strikeouts, five hits, two walks, one run) went the first nine innings for the win, while Kevin Saucier pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for the save.
