GAME #26 (losers’ bracket):
The top five Expos in the batting order all had multiple hits, with Andre Dawson collecting three of them. Montreal never trailed and went up 3-1 in the third inning after RBI singles by Rodney Scott and Warren Cromartie. Tim Raines drove in a run with a single in the sixth to make it 4-1. Minnesota’s Sal Butera had a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the sixth to get the deficit back to one run. But the Expos’ Bill Gullickson (six strikeouts, nine hits, one walk and three runs in seven innings) stranded runners on second in both the sixth and seventh innings. Woodie Fryman and Jeff Reardon both pitched 1-2-3 innings to protect the lead.
