Len Barker gave up six hits and four walks but repeatedly pitched his way out of trouble en route to a complete-game shutout for the Indians. The Expos left runners in scoring position in five different innings. Cleveland took the lead in the second inning when Duane Kuiper knocked a two-run single and Tom Veryzer followed with a sacrifice fly. The Indians had another three-run inning in the fifth when Miguel Dilone led off with a walk, followed by an RBI double by Jorge Orta and a two-run homer for Mike Hargrove. Tim Raines had three hits and three stolen bases for Montreal.
