Fernando Valenzuela pitched a five-hit shutout with zero walks and eight strikeouts to lead the Dodgers. The Rangers only got as far as second base in the fourth inning and third base in the ninth inning. Dusty Baker’s RBI single started the scoring in the fourth. The Dodgers added three more in the sixth with RBI singles by Steve Garvey and Pedro Guerrero. In a five-run seventh inning, Baker had a two-RBI single, Garvey had a sacrifice fly and Ron Cey smacked a two-run homer.
