Rickey Henderson went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases and Matt Keough threw a two-hitter for the Athletics. Oakland scored runs in six of its eight innings at the plate. Dwayne Murphy and Cliff Johnson hit solo home runs, with Murphy finishing with three RBI, and Shooty Babitt went 3-for-3. It was already 5-0 when Cleveland scored its only run in the fourth inning, as Jorge Orta singled and eventually scored on an error. Keough struck out four and walked one and the only run he allowed was unearned.
