GAME #37 (losers’ bracket):
The Reds blew an early 4-0 lead, then got a game-winning two-run home run from Ron Oester in the bottom of the eighth. Ray Knight went 4-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI for Cincinnati. A two-run double by Knight made it 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kansas City scored four times in the top of the fifth to tie, and the Royals took their one and only lead at 6-5 in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by John Wathan. Knight doubled with one out in the bottom of the eighth, and with two outs, Oester’s blast put Cincinnati back in front. Tom Hume pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for the save.
