Alan Trammell went 4-for-5 with three doubles, two RBI and two runs scored to lead the Tigers to victory. He doubled in the first and scored on Kirk Gibson’s RBI single. Trammell had an RBI single in the third inning, and he then scored on an RBI double by Steve Kemp. John Wockenfuss’ solo homer gave the Tigers a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning. San Diego’s only runs came in the sixth, as Ozzie Smith had a run-scoring double and Terry Kennedy provided an RBI single. Detroit pushed the lead back up to three runs at 5-2 on an RBI double by Trammell in the seventh inning.
