Game 2: St. Louis 5, New York 1
The Browns evened the series by jumping on the Yankees for three runs in the top of the first, which included a two-run home run by Harlond Clift. That would be all that Urban Shocker would need, as he scattered six hits and four walks along with three strikeouts in the complete-game win. It was 4-0 when the Yankees finally got on the board in the seventh on back-to-back doubles by Roger Maris and Red Rolfe. St. Louis also got solo home runs from George Sisler in the sixth and Rick Ferrell in the ninth.

Game 3: St. Louis 8, New York 4
Once again, the Browns went up early, scoring three runs in the second and one in the fourth. The Yankees had just one good inning at the plate, but they made the top of the eighth count as Babe Ruth, Yogi Berra and Red Rolfe all homered to tie the game at four. Momentum quickly shifted back to St. Louis, however, in the bottom half of the frame, as the Browns scored four runs on three hits, with a two-run double by Red Kress and a two-RBI single by Bill Jacobson.

George McQuinn tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly in the second, Red Kress smacked a grand slam in the fourth and Ken Williams launched a two-run homer in the fifth. St. Louis starter Hoyt Wilhelm retired the first 14 Yankees but finally ran into trouble in the sixth inning when Tony Lazzeri hit a two-run homer to make it 7-2.
