Game 1: Philadelphia 7, Chicago 5
Chuck Klein’s two-RBI double in the top of the ninth broke a 5-5 tie and gave the Phillies the game one win. Philadelphia went up 5-2 when Don Hurst hit a two-run homer in the top of the third inning. The Cubs battled back to tie it, as Riggs Stephenson hit his second home run of the game in the bottom of the third, while Hack Wilson and Ernie Banks both doubled and scored on sacrifice flies in the sixth and eight innings, respectively. Chicago reliever Clark Griffith took over in the ninth and walked two of the first three batters, setting up Klein’s hit. The Cubs put the tying run on base in the bottom of the ninth but Philadelphia closer Jim Konstanty got out of the jam.

Game 3: Philadelphia 2, Chicago 1
The Phillies’ Earl Moore narrowly outdueled the Cubs’ Hippo Vaughn in a classic pitchers’ duel. The Phillies scored a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the third and collected their only two hits of the game, but one was a two-out, two-RBI single by Ed Delahanty. Vaughn issued only two walks the rest of the game. The Cubs got their one run in the top of the fifth when Kiki Cuyler led off with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Riggs Stephenson. Moore surrendered seven hits and two walks, but pitched out of a few jams, including stranding the tying run on third base with two outs in the ninth.

Game 4: Chicago 4, Philadelphia 1
Gabby Hartnett homered twice for the Cubs, who also got an impressive showing on the mound by Mordecai Brown. The Phils’ Grover Cleveland Alexander only gave up four hits, but three of them were home runs. Chicago’s Riggs Stephenson hit a solo homer in the first inning, as did Hartnett in the second. Harnett added a two-run homer in the sixth inning. The Phillies got their single run in the third inning when Pinky Whitney singled, stole second and scored after a couple of groundouts. Whitney finished 3-for-3 with a double and triple. Brown gave up six hits and one walk while striking out five in the complete game.

The wind was blowing out at Shibe Park, as 11 home runs were hit in the contest, seven of them by the Cubs, though the Phillies’ Cy Williams had the most with three different solo shots. Gabby Hartnett and Hank Sauer both hit a pair of homers for Chicago. The Cubs put four runs on the board before the Phillies got an out, as Ernie Banks hit a three-run homer and Hack Wilson hit a solo shot. Sauer hit his first home run to make it 5-0 after the top of the first. Harnett finished 3-for-5 for the Cubs and hit solo home runs in the fifth and the ninth.

Game 6: Philadelphia 3, Chicago 2
Another pitchers’ duel went the way of the Phillies, as Earl Moore (eight innings, five hits, four walks, two runs, seven strikeouts) beat the Cubs’ Hippo Vaughn (nine innings, eight hits, one walk, three runs, nine strikeouts) by one run for the second time this series. Things looked good for the Cubs early, as Ernie Banks had an RBI single and Gabby Hartnett had a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first. That would be it for the Cubs, who would have a runner thrown out at home in the fourth, leave the bases loaded in the fifth and have runners reach second base in the seventh and ninth. The Phillies got an RBI single from Richie Ashburn in the third and a two-run double by El Delahanty in the sixth, and that would be enough.

Game 7: Philadelphia 7, Chicago 3
Cy Williams hit a pair of home runs and Grover Cleveland Alexander had a solid pitching performance as Philadelphia claimed the game 7 victory. Williams hit a two-run homer in the top of the first to set the stage, though the Cubs’ Ernie Banks came back with a solo shot in the bottom half of the frame. After three scoreless innings, the Phillies broke the game open with four runs, two on a double by Chuck Klein and two more on Williams’ second homer. After falling behing 7-1, the Cubs got two solo homers from Hank Sauer in the seventh and ninth innings, but that would be it.
