Game 4: Philadelphia 5, Chicago 3
Looking for the sweep, Chicago jumped out to an early lead as Carl Reynolds and Minnie Minoso had back-to-back doubles in the second inning for a 1-0 lead. Philadelphia finally got some offense going, however, as Bob Johnson hit a two-run homer in the fourth and Frank Baker hit a two-RBI double in the fifth to make it 4-1. Chicago got a run back in the seventh on a home run by Harry Hooper, but the Athletics went up 5-2 in the eighth when Al Simmons tripled and made it home on a Jimmie Foxx sacrifice fly. Chicago added one more run in the bottom of the eighth on a Zeke Bonura sacrifice fly, but Philadelphia avoided the sweep via Rube Waddell’s complete-game effort.

Eddie Cicotte’s solid complete-game effort on the mound – five hits, three walks, three strikeouts – ended the series. The White Sox jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Luke Appling and Carl Reynolds had RBI doubles. Philadelphia tied it in the top of the fifth on a two-run homer by Jimmy Dykes.
