Cleveland got two home runs from Hal Trosky and improved to 7-0 in elimination contests, sending the World Series to a seventh game.
Trosky got things started with a two-run shot in the top of the first inning. Pittsburgh got one back in the bottom of the second on a Gus Suhr solo homer. The Indians went up 4-1 in the top of the fourth inning on Larry Doby’s two-run blast.
It stayed that way until the bottom of the eighth when the Pirates’ Ralph Kiner launched a two-run homer, his 12th in 21 games, making it a one-run contest at 4-3.
Cleveland went back up by two in the top of the ninth, however, as Trosky led off the inning with his second home run of the game. Stan Coveleski, who gave up just five hits in the complete-game effort, pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth to close out the victory.
The Indians finished with six hits, and Trosky was the only Cleveland player with two of them. Kiner and Pie Traynor had four of the Pirates’ five hits.
