WS G7: Pittsburgh 6, Cleveland 3

The Pirates scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back, cruising to the game 7 victory and the world championship.

The Indians, winners of seven straight elimination games and three previous game sevens, finally had their luck run out.

Honus Wagner led off the bottom of the first with a single and stole second. With one out, Arky Vaughan knocked an RBI double, and Lloyd Waner later provided a two-run triple. Vaughan then added a two-run homer in the bottom of the third to make it 5-0 and chase Cleveland starter Bob Feller from the contest.

Pittsburgh starter Babe Adams had his good stuff early, as he kept the Indians off the scoreboard for the first six innings and only gave up two hits in that time. Cleveland finally got to him in the seventh inning, however, as Al Rosen walked and scored on a Lou Boudreau RBI double.

Pittsburgh got the run back in the bottom of the seventh, however, as Wagner and Pie Traynor had back-to-back extra-base hits, making it 6-1.

Cleveland made things interesting in the ninth inning, as Larry Doby hit a two-run homer with one out to cut the deficit to 6-3. That led to Adams (8 1/3 innings, four hits, three runs) being pulled for closer Roy Face. Boudreau then hit his second double of the game to continue the comeback effort, but Face coaxed two ground-ball outs to end the game and the series.
