The Waves lost by 26 in the Kennel in real life, and I didn’t have any expectations that the simulations would be much different. But, the losses ended up only being by 14, 11 and 16.
Real: [L] Gonzaga 99, Pepperdine 73 — 0-1
CB2K: [L] Gonzaga 85, Pepperdine 71 — 0-1
APC: [L] Gonzaga 100, Pepperdine 89 — 0-1
CCB: [L] Gonzaga 84, Pepperdine 68 — 0-1
Two of the three simulations were not close. Gonzaga led comfortably throughout the cards-and-dice CB2K game. The Courtside College Basketball game was a 20-point contest in the first half and the Waves didn’t get much closer than the final margin in the second half. The Action! PC simulation was actually a two-point game with 12 minutes left, but Gonzaga then went on an 8-0 run and it wasn’t close again.
More observations: Interestingly, the Waves shot better than 50% from the field in all three simulations, but were only at 45.6% in the real game. Action! PC had the final rebounding totals at 38-25 in Gonzaga’s favor, the exact same as the real game … Action! PC had Jeremy Major with 20 points (he had 21 in real life) … In real life, both teams’ top scorers had down nights, with Lamond Murray Jr. scoring four and Kyle Wiltjer getting nine. Wiltjer’s lowest-scoring game in the simulations was 19, and Murray’s was 16.
