1/16/2016 Pepperdine at San Francisco

In the first leg of the NorCal trip at Santa Clara, the Waves picked up a game in each of the simulations. In the second leg at San Francisco, the Waves dropped a game in two of the three sims. Interesting, all three sims had a pretty similar final score, though they were all much lower-scoring than the actual game.

Real: [W] Pepperdine 98, San Francisco 84 — 4-3
CB2K: [W] Pepperdine 74, San Francisco 67 — 4-3
APC: [L] San Francisco 77, Pepperdine 74 — 5-2
CCB: [L] San Francisco 72, Pepperdine 69 — 5-2

The only winning effort in the sims came in the cards-and-dice game. The Waves led by as many as nine in the first half but trailed by six at halftime. Stacy Davis had eight points in a 10-0 run that put the Waves ahead 56-52 in the second half. Tied at 62, Davis had a three-point play that kickstarted a 6-0 run and put the Waves ahead to stay.

The Waves let one get away in the Action! PC simulation. Pepperdine led 64-54 with nine minutes left and 72-69 with two minutes left, but USF ended the game on an 8-2 run.

The Courtside College Basketball game was thoroughly frustrating. Missed high-percentage shots, untimely turnovers, foul trouble — it was one failed possession after another. Davis and Jett Raines fouled out in the second half. The Waves were down 10 with a few minutes left and finally showed some life, hitting a few three-pointers and forcing some turnovers and misses. Pepperdine had a chance to tie it at the buzzer with a three but missed.

The real game saw big performances from Lamond Murray Jr. (29 points) and Jeremy Major (20 points), though in the sims, Murray didn’t score more than 18, and Major only had a total of 19 points over the three games.
