Groan. Facing the 10th-place team in the WCC in Malibu, the Waves managed to lose two of the three simulations. An 18-point win in real life had no bearing on two games where the Waves played very poorly. But, in the computer sim that they won, the Waves hung 101 points on the Toreros, 25 more than the real game.
Real: [W] Pepperdine 76, San Diego 58 — 5-3
CB2K: [L] San Diego 78, Pepperdine 62 — 4-4
APC: [W] Pepperdine 101, San Diego 69 — 6-2
CCB: [L] San Diego 64, Pepperdine 56 — 5-3
The CB2K game was all San Diego. The Toreros went on an early 17-2 run to take a 30-13 lead, and kept the lead in double-figures the rest of the way. Pepperdine didn’t make a three-pointer. The CB2K Waves dropped a game behind their real-life counterparts.
But, the Waves came back with 28 points from Jeremy Major and 22 from Lamond Murray Jr. in the Action! PC blowout win. San Diego made 15 of 35 three-pointers but didn’t attempt a single free throw.
The Courtside College Basketball result was nothing but frustration as the Waves went up by close to 15 midway through the first half, then saw the lead dwindle to nine at halftime. Pepperdine then went from shooting 54% in the first half half to 23% in the second and was outscored by 17.
