Not a bad job by two of the the three simulations, which weren’t far off the real thing, a six-point win that gave the Waves their third straight home win over the Cougars. Neither team led by more than the final margin of six points.
We’ve reached the halfway point of the WCC schedule with the Waves up one game in the Action! PC computer game, and one game back in each of the other two sims.
Real: [W] Pepperdine 71, BYU 65 — 6-3
CB2K: [W] Pepperdine 72, BYU 70 — 5-4
APC: [W] Pepperdine 76, BYU 71 — 7-2
CCB: [L] BYU 81, Pepperdine 64 — 5-4
In the CB2K cards-and-dice game, the Waves had an impressive first half, leading by 18 at 36-18 before almost blowing it at the end. BYU cut the deficit to nine at halftime and took the lead at 62-59 midway through the second half. With Pepperdine holding a 70-69 lead in the final two minutes, the Cougars missed shots on their next three possessions. BYU had to foul in the closing seconds, and Jett Raines made both to make it 72-69. Rather than give up a three, Pepperdine chose to foul at the end of the game. After BYU made the first free throw, the Waves corralled the rebound off the purposefully missed second to close out the contest.
In the Action! PC computer game, the Waves trailed by 10 with less than five minutes to go. A 9-0 run got it down to one, kickstarting a game-ending 21-6 run over the final 4 1/2 minutes.
Pepperdine won the first two sims by making BYU miss three-pointers (5-for-26 and 3-for-16), something that also happened in real life (6-for-22). That didn’t carry over to the Courtside College Basketball sim, as the Cougars went 9-for-16 overall and dominated the second half.
