April 18: Will Clark hit solo homers in the fourth and the fifth innings, and provided a walk-off single in the 12th. The Padres tied it in the top of the ninth. The Giants put runners on first and third with no one out in both the ninth and the 11th, but couldn’t capitalize. They finally succeeded in the 12th when Robby Thompson led off with a triple and Clark got a single past the drawn-in infield.

April 19: Five unearned runs in the fifth inning did in the Giants, as the Padres strung together five hits in six at-bats after a one-out error. San Francisco closed the gap from 6-1 to 6-4, but had a runner thrown out at home plate in the eighth inning.
