April 22: Scott Garrelts finally gave up a run after starting the season with 22 consecutive scoreless innings. But the Giants were already up 4-0 at that point, with the help of a couple of doubles by Will Clark and a two-RBI double by Terry Kennedy. Kirk Gibson’s two-run homer in the fifth ended the streak, and Mike Scioscia hit a solo shot in the sixth to get the Dodgers within a run at 4-3. Matt Williams put the Giants back up by three with a two-run homer in the seventh.

April 23: Both Rick Reuschel and Fernando Valenzuela took no-hitters into the seventh inning. But Valenzuela started the seventh with two walks, and Kevin Mitchell launched a two-run triple to score two runs. The Giants’ only other hit came in the eighth, as Brett Butler singled and later scored on an error to make it 3-0. Reuschel’s no-hitter lasted until the ninth, as Alfredo Griffin led off with a double. Reuschel got the next two outs but Mickey Hatcher had an RBI single to end the shutout attempt. The Dodgers brought the winning run to the plate but Craig Lefferts got the final out for his second straight save.
