The Waves pulled off one their unlikeliest road victories during this time period, beating the Gaels by six (a loss that greatly contributed to SMC missing the NCAA Tournament, as the Waves swept the regular-season series). The simulations were not so kind to Pepperdine, as the Gaels won a couple of close games and another by a blowout.
Real: [W] Pepperdine 69, Saint Mary’s 63 — 8-6
CB2K: [L] Saint Mary’s 73, Pepperdine 70 — 6-8
APC: [L] Saint Mary’s 87, Pepperdine 85 (OT) — 10-4
CCB: [L] Saint Mary’s 87, Pepperdine 62 — 7-7
Pepperdine had a couple of near massive comebacks. In the CB2K cards-and-dice game, the Waves trailed by 24 at halftime, then reversed things completely in the second half and got the deficit down to three in the final minute before running out of time. In the Action! PC computer game, Pepperdine fell behind 15-0, went behind by as many as 26, and was down 48-27 at halftime. Somehow, the Waves sent it to overtime, overcoming a nine-point deficit with five minutes to go and scoring the final five points of regulation. OT went back and forth — 32 points were scored in all — but SMC’s Joe Rahon hit a game-winning jumper at the buzzer for a two-point win.
Not much can be said about the Courtside College Basketball computer game, which saw the Gaels win by 25.
