The regular season saw a dramatic finish in two of the three simulations, just like it did in real life. But, while the Waves lost at LMU in overtime in reality, here Pepperdine swept all three PCH Cup sims. The Waves finished the 18-game schedule better than real life in two of the three sims, and matched the record in the other.
Real: [L] Loyola Marymount 90, Pepperdine 83 (2OT) — 10-8
CB2K: [W] Pepperdine 67, Loyola Marymount 66 — 10-8
APC: [W] Pepperdine 97, Loyola Marymount 95 (OT) — 13-5
CCB: [W] Pepperdine 79, Loyola Marymount 66 — 11-7
Jeremy Major hit a game-winning shot at the regulation buzzer to give the Waves a one-point win in the CB2K cards-and-dice game. The Waves had a small lead for most of the game, but it went back-and-forth in the final minutes. Pepperdine went ahead 66-65 on a low-percentage three-pointer by Amadi Udenyi. Both teams had a number of misses, but LMU got a basket on its final possession to take a one-point lead. Major’s basket on the final play of the game gave the Waves their 10th CB2K victory, matching the team’s real life record.
The Action! PC computer game had a similarly high scoring output, also went to overtime, and was won on a Jett Raines basket with 1.2 seconds left. LMU’s Shamar Johnson got an offensive rebound and scored at the buzzer to tie the game at 84 and send it OT. The Lions hit a three to tie the game at 95 with 14 seconds left, but Raines sank a baseline jumper for the game-winner. The victory let Pepperdine end the season at 13-5, three games better than reality.
There was no drama in the Courtside College Basketball game, as the Waves rolled to a 13-point win. Lamond Murray Jr. scored 19 of his 21 points in the first half to help the Waves to a 43-40 lead at the break. After sitting out most of the first half due to foul trouble, Stacy Davis scored 21 of his 23 points in the second half as Pepperdine extended the lead and had an easy time of it. The victory improved the Waves’ record to 11-7, one win better than what actually happened.
