6/5-8/1989 San Francisco at Cincinnati

The Giants had a rare five-game series in Cincinnati, which was caused by a postponement from their first series in April. A doubleheader was added to the mix. Ernest Riles hit three home runs in game four of the series. As in real life, the Giants could only manage two wins out of the five. After 59 games, San Francisco remains nine wins ahead of pace.

June 8: The Giants got off to a good start, scoring twice in the first inning off an RBI double by Robby Thompson and an RBI single by Candy Maldonado. That would be it for the Giants, however. They would have a runner thrown out at the plate in the third inning and strand runners on third base on two other occasions. Cincinnati tied it in the third inning and scored three times in the seventh for the win.
