The Giants began a homestand with a three-game sweep of the Padres, just like they did in real life. San Francisco won the opener in 14 innings, then got a couple of strong pitching performances in the second and third game, nearly matching reality. After 62 games, the Giants remain nine wins ahead of pace.

June 9: The Padres scored three in the first, then the Giants did the same in the bottom of the first, with Tracy Jones providing a two-run double. It stayed 3-3 into extra innings. Carmelo Martinez led off the 10th with a solo home run, but Will Clark did the exact same in the bottom of the 10th. In the bottom of the 14th, Kirt Manwaring led off with a single and later scored on a Donell Nixon walk-off base hit.

June 11: After five scoreless innings, the Giants finally went ahead in the bottom of the sixth thanks to an RBI single by Will Clark and an RBI double by Tracy Jones. The Padres tied it in the seventh on a two-run home run by Marvell Wynne. Kevin Mitchell’s 21st home run of the season was a two-run shot that provided the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.
