August 22 — The Giants went down 2-0 early, then took a 3-2 lead after Matt Williams hit a two-run homer in the fourth and Robby Thompson followed with a solo shot in the fifth. But, the Mets scored three more in the bottom of the fifth, as Darryl Strawberry walked with the bases loaded and Kevin McReynolds followed with a two-run single. Pinch-hitter Ken Oberkfell doubled home a run in the eighth to make it 5-4, but the Giants left runners in scoring position in both the eighth and ninth innings.

But in the eighth, Will Clark had an RBI single and Matt Williams had an RBI double to make it 5-2.
