Eleven of the 16 Montreal hits went for extra bases. Kevin Mitchell drove in all three Giant runs with a two-run homer — his 42nd — in the third inning and an RBI double in the sixth.

August 26 — Scott Garrelts was denied in his first attempt to win his 20th game of the season. The Expos’ Mark Langston outpitched him with a four-hit shutout that included 14 strikeouts. The Expos got their first run in the second inning when Kevin Mitchell and Jose Uribe collided on a pop up. Tim Raines added an RBI double in the eighth. The Giants didn’t get a runner past second base.
