The Giants will be glad to not face the Mets again this season. For all the success that San Francisco had, they went 4-8 against New York, posting one win and two losses in all four three-game series. In real life, it was a 9-3 record against the Mets. After 136 games, the Giants are now 12 wins ahead of pace.

September 1 — Scott Garrelts was denied his 20th win for a second time. After falling behind 2-0 early, the Giants knotted it up in the seventh after an RBI double by Candy Maldonado and an RBI single by Terry Kennedy. After Garrelts put the first two runners on base in the eighth, he was pulled, but Howard Johnson hit a two-run double to give the Mets the lead again.
