An inning-ending double play with runners on first and second ended the Reds’ last threat in the eighth.

September 14 — The Giants scored first on a Matt Williams RBI single in the first inning, but Cincinnati’s Tim Leary shut San Francisco down for the next seven innings. Paul O’Neill hit two of the Reds’ three homers, including a two-run shot during a four-run fifth inning that put Cincinnati ahead to stay.
