100 wins! The Giants hit the century mark in their 149th game. Only a brilliant pitching performance by the Padres prevented San Francisco from earning a three-game home sweep. Kevin Mitchell added his 46th home run, Will Clark drove in his 100th run and Scott Garrelts won his 21st game. After 150 games, the Giants are 14 wins ahead of pace.

September 15 — Matt Williams was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the first to get the scoring started. In the fifth, the Giants broke the game open with a Will Clark RBI single and a Kevin Mitchell three-run homer. Brett Butler added an RBI double in the sixth. Bob Knepper took a shutout into the ninth inning but the Padres finally got on the board, though it was too little, too late.

September 17 (#1) — The Giants got off to a 2-0 lead, which more often than not has been enough for Scott Garrelts. But the Padres notched single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings to take the lead. But, the Giants came right back with four unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth to post a comeback win. After the first two outs were made, the Giants loaded the bases. Brett Butler drew a bases-loaded walk to tie it, and then Robby Thompson had a two-run single and Will Clark had an RBI single.

September 17 (#2) — The Padres avoided the sweep thanks to Bruce Hurst’s one-run, four-hit, eight-inning effort. San Diego went ahead on a Jack Clark two-run homer in the fourth inning. San Francisco’s only run came on an RBI single by Will Clark in the sixth.
