MLB College Gameday #5

UCLA picked up another easy win and Arizona State won a key game against USC by shutout as the Bruins and Sun Devils continued to lead the top of the league standings. The other three games were all decided by a single run.

Arizona State 8, USC 0: Craig Swan tossed a two-hit shutout for the Sun Devils. He walked three and struck out eight. USC put runners into scoring position in three innings but couldn’t come up with a run. ASU got a three-run homer by Paul LoDuca in the third. Oddibe McDowell hit a two-run homer and Barry Bonds had a three-run shot in the fifth.

Stanford 4, Cal State Fullerton 3 (10 innings): The Titans’ Khris Davis tied the game with a solo home run with two out in the bottom of the ninth. The Cardinal would regain the lead on Mike Aldrete’s two-run homer in the top of 10th. The Titans got one back on Justin Turner’s solo shot in the bottom half of the inning, but it wasn’t enough.

Long Beach State 5, California 4: The Golden Bears went up 3-0 in the first inning, but the Beach came back to take a 4-3 advantage. Cal tied it on Conor Jackson’s RBI double in the the seventh. Long Beach State got a leadoff homer from Matt Duffy in the eighth for what turned out to be the deciding run.

Oregon State 4, Arizona 3: The Wildcats led 2-1 after six innings and had only given up a solo homer to the Beavers’ Cole Gillespie at that point. But in the bottom of the seventh, Michael Conforto and Adley Rutschman had back-to-back RBI singles, and Steve Lyons added a sacrifice fly.

UCLA 6, Pepperdine 2: The Bruins scored four runs in the third inning, which featured consecutive RBI doubles by Brandon Crawford and Jackie Robinson. Troy Glaus made it 6-0 with a two-run homer in the fifth. The Waves avoided a shutout when Chase D’Arnaud hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning.
