UCLA 5, Stanford 3: The Cardinal’s Stephen Piscotty hit a two-run homer in the top of the first, but UCLA eventually tied it in the seventh inning on Eric Byrnes’ RBI double. Todd Zeile put the Bruins ahead in the eighth with a solo homer, and later on, Eric Karros had an RBI single and Troy Glaus hit a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the 10th, Jeff Kent led off with a single, went to second on a wild pitch, and scored the game-ending run on a Mark Canha’s single.
