King of the Ring Matches 25-32

Amazingly, only two of the top eight seeds have won twice and made it to the third round. Shockingly, #1 Hulk Hogan, #3 Ultimate Warrior and #6 Roddy Piper were among the second-round collapses who now find themselves in the losers’ bracket. #2 Andre the Giant and #4 Randy Savage look like the big favorites at this point, unless the upsets continue.

Winners’ Bracket Second Round Matches:

(1) Hulk Hogan vs. (17) Kamala: Kamala hit Hogan with everything he had early. There were three early big splashes, though Hogan kicked out each time. Hogan took control, Hulked up, body slammed Kamala, and went for the pin. But Kamala kicked out to the surprise of the crowd. And then Kamala regained momentum. He landed damaging big splashes on Hogan twice more. And then Kamala hit a big splash off the top rope and went for the pinfall … 1 … 2 … 3. The crowd is stunned! Hogan, the top seed, is shockingly sent to the losers’ bracket by Kamala! Kamala def. Hogan by pinfall at 15:00.

(9) Ricky Steamboat vs. (25) Hercules: Hercules made little effort to fight fair, twice allowing manager Bobby Heenan to distract the ref, then blasting Steamboat with his chain. Thought badly hurt, Steamboat fought on. He managed to escape Hercules’ full nelson attempt, and not long after, hit Hercules square with a high crossbody off the top rope, good for the pinfall. Steamboat def. Hercules by pinfall at 16:00.

(4) Randy Savage vs. (20) Honky Tonk Man: Savage dominated the match, and went to the top rope multiple times to inflict more damage. But nearing his end, Honky Tonk Man pulled out the Shake, Rattle & Roll seemingly out of nowhere. Savage kicked out, then moments later went to the top rope again and finished HTM off with a double axe handle. Savage def. Honky Tonk Man by pinfall at 26:00.

(21) Brutus Beefcake vs. (28) Bam Bam Bigelow: Bigelow looked good early, landing a couple of big splashes. But Beefcake methodically wore down Bigelow, eventually ending it with a running knee. Beefcake def. Bigelow by pinfall at 36:00.

(2) Andre the Giant vs. (18) Big Boss Man: With Hulk Hogan sent to the losers’ bracket, Andre now becomes the prohibitive favorite in the tournament. He left no chance for another second-round upset, dominating the Big Boss Man thoroughly, and eventually winning the match by simply sitting his massive frame onto the prone BBM. Andre def. Big Boss Man by pinfall at 18:00.

(7) Big John Studd vs. (10) Jake Roberts: Almost immediately, the referee got caught between the two combatants and was briefly knocked out. Studd attempted to take advantage, taking a pair of brass knuckles from Bobby Heenan, and walloping Roberts. As the ref came to, Studd went for what he thought was an easy pin — but Roberts kicked out just before the count of three. Studd and Heenan couldn’t believe it. Heenan attempted to distract the referee so that Studd could use the brass knuckles again. But this time, the referee saw the cheating taking place. Studd is disqualified! Roberts def. Studd by disqualification at 3:00.

(3) Ultimate Warrior vs. (14) Rick Rude: The Ultimate Warrior appeared to have things well in hand, landing several big moves on Rude. But Rude capitalized on a mistake, landed the Rude Awakening, and recorded the pin. Rude def. Warrior by pinfall at 12:00.

(6) Roddy Piper vs. (11) Tito Santana: Like the match before it, the favored Piper seemed to be wearing Santana down. But given one big opportunity, Santana locked on the Figure Four in the middle of the ring. Piper could not escape and eventually tapped out. Santana def. Piper by submission at 15:00.
