At the halfway point of the league season, USC pulled into a first-place tie with UCLA thanks to Oregon State’s late-game heroics. Arizona State would have joined them atop the leaderboard at 7-2 but for an extra-innings loss to California. Three of the five games were decided in the final inning.

California 8, Arizona State 7 (10 innings): The Golden Bears led 6-1 in the third inning, and 7-5 heading to the bottom of the ninth, but the Sun Devils sent it to extra innings on two-out RBI singles by Reggie Jackson (5-for-5) and Bob Horner. Geoff Blum led off the top of the 10th with a solo homer for what turned out to be the game-winner.

But in the bottom of the ninth, the Titans got three consecutive singles by Jeremy Giambi, Khris Davis and Brett Mayne. The last one tied the game, and Christian Colon’s sacrifice fly was the walk-off game-winner.
