MLB College Gameday #13

The offenses went big on day 13, with USC (18 runs) and Arizona State (11 runs) both collecting 21 hits, and the other three winners all scoring eight or nine runs. Only one team failed to score as many as four runs. UCLA lost again, allowing USC to take a two-game lead in the standings with five to play.

Long Beach State 8, Oregon State 4: Jason Giambi hit a two-run homer in the top of the first and the Beach went up 8-1 in the fifth on Terrmel Sledge’s three-run shot.

Stanford 9, California 5: RBI singles by Stephen Piscotty, Jed Lowrie and Ed Sprague in the top of the first gave the Cardinal a 3-0 lead that it would never relinquish. A three-run sixth inning featured a two-run homer by Sprague and a solo shot by A.J. Hinch to pad the lead.

Arizona 9, UCLA 5 (10 innings): The Bruins tied it at five on Jackie Robinson’s two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth. The Wildcats plated four runs on five hits in the top of the 10th, including three straight RBI singles by Casey Candaele, Jack Howell and Kevin Newman.

Arizona State 11, Pepperdine 1: Paul LoDuca and Bob Horner hit two-run homers in the third inning and Barry Bonds had a three-run blast in the fourth inning to help the Sun Devils go up big early. Craig Swan was the only starting pitcher to have a great outing all day.
