Barry Zito led USC to a 9-0 shutout of Arizona State, helping the Trojans to keep a two-game lead in the standings, and greatly diminishing the Sun Devils’ title chances, as ASU is now three back with four to play. UCLA kept within striking distance after a one-run win over Pepperdine.

Pepperdine got one back in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI double by Ryan Christenson, but the next batter struck out, leaving the potential tying run on second base.
