King of the Ring Matches 41-44

Four men are now 3-0 and have advanced to the winners’ bracket semifinals: #2 Andre the Giant, #4 Randy Savage, #9 Ricky Steamboat and #11 Tito Santana. Savage-Steamboat will recreate their Wrestlemania III classic for the right to move on to the winners’ final.

Winners’ Bracket Quarterfinals:

(9) Ricky Steamboat vs. (17) Kamala: Steamboat got in some good shots early, although when Kamala busted Steamboat’s forehead open after smashing him into the ring post, momentum shifted. But just when it looked like Kamala had control, Steamboat got a strike in, then went to the top rope and took care of Kamala for good with the High Crossbody. Steamboat def. Kamala by pinfall at 8:00.

(4) Randy Savage vs. (21) Brutus Beefcake: It took a while, but Savage wore down Beefcake and avoided the upset. Savage went to the top rope four times throughout the match, the last time landing the Flying Elbow Drop for the win. Savage def. Beefcake by pinfall at 31:00.

(2) Andre the Giant vs. (10) Jake Roberts: Andre was just too big, and too dominant. Roberts got in some offense, but Andre’s repeated big blows put Roberts down for the count, with a leg drop providing the finisher. Andre the Giant def. Roberts by pinfall at 10:00.

(11) Tito Santana vs. (14) Rick Rude: Rude got off to a fast start, even hitting a Rude Awakening early, although Santana was able to kick out. Santana got on a roll, however, regaining the advantage. Wanting to reverse his fortunes, Rude went for a shortcut, but it was costly. He got Bobby Heenan to distract the referee and slugged Santana with a steel chair — but the referee turned around in time to see the maneuver. Santana def. Rude by disqualification at 12:00.
