There were two decent upsets among the first five games of the tournament, with 41st-seeded 1988 Oklahoma State and Barry Sanders beating 24th-seeded 2003 Oklahoma, and 45th-seeded 1980 South Carolina and George Rogers holding off 1986 Miami. 1991 Michigan (52 points) and 2018 Oklahoma (43 points) had great offensive days en route to wins.
