4/24-25/1989 Toronto at Oakland

Dave Stewart and Storm Davis had strong starts and the A’s earned a series sweep, albeit just a two-game one against visiting Toronto. Dave Parker (5-for-8) and Billy Beane (5-for-9) had excellent showings at the plate. After 21 games, Oakland remains six games behind pace.

April 24: Dave Stewart gave up five hits and zero earned runs in his seven innings of work. Mike Gallego gave the A’s their first run with a sacrifice fly in the second inning. After Toronto tied it, Dave Henderson hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning.

April 25: The A’s scored four runs in the bottom of the first as Dave Henderson had an RBI single, Carney Lansford had a sacrifice fly and Dave Parker blasted a two-run homer. Toronto cut the deficit in half in the sixth inning, but the A’s tacked on a run each of their final three at-bats, including RBI doubles by Glenn Hubbard and Lance Blankenship.
