4/28-30/1989 Detroit at Oakland

The first month of the season came to a close as the A’s did exactly what they did in real life, taking two of three home games from Detroit. Dave Parker had a grand slam in game one and Dave Henderson had a walk-off single in game two. Fred Lynn hit his second and third homers of the series as the Tigers avoided the sweep, however. After 26 games, the A’s remain seven games behind pace.

April 28: Mike Moore was terrific again in his seven innings of work, though he did allow Tiger runners into scoring position in four of the first five innings. None scored, however. After going up 2-0 thanks to RBI singles by Carney Lansford and Dave Henderson in the fourth and fifth, respectively, the A’s broke out for six runs in the eighth inning on Dave Parker’s second grand slam of the season and a two-run single by Henderson.
