6/19-21/1989 Detroit at Oakland

Hard to say what’s more exciting — the A’s swept the Tigers to pick up another game in the standings, or the fact that Rickey Henderson is coming home. On June 21, Oakland sent Luis Polonia, Eric Plunk and Greg Cadaret to New York to bring back Henderson. He’ll make his debut against Toronto in the next series. The other Henderson, Dave, had a big series against Detroit, batting .571 (8-for-14) with one walk-off hit. After 71 games, Oakland is now five wins behind pace.

But, the Tigers tied it up in the eighth on Keith Moreland’s two-run double, and the game went to extra innings. In the bottom of the 11th, Luis Polonia singled with one out. He later scored on a walk-off single by Henderson.
