It was a disastrous trip to Anaheim, as the A’s couldn’t do much of anything and were swept by the Angels. It was the first time Oakland had been swept in at least a three-game series since early April (also against the Angels). Oakland hadn’t lost a series since early June, and hadn’t lost three in a row since early May. Worse yet, the real-life A’s won two of three, putting the replay Athletics further behind. The A’s had their three best pitchers going but all three suffered the loss. After 118 games, Oakland is now three wins behind pace.

August 11: The Angels scored first on a Devon White RBI single in the first inning, though the A’s tied it in the fourth on a Dave Henderson solo homer. It stayed 1-1 until late, when Claudell Washington hit a two-out home run in the bottom of the eighth to put the Angels ahead for good. Oakland left eight runners on base, half of them in scoring position, including in both the eighth and ninth innings.
