8/15-17/1989 Cleveland at Oakland

The A’s bounced back from their sweep in Anaheim to take two of three at home against the Indians, just as they did in real life. The pitching was excellent, giving up only three runs in three games, but the hitting disappeared in the middle game after a huge game one performance. After 121 games, the A’s are still three wins behind pace.

August 16: The A’s used up all of their offense the day before and couldn’t solve Bud Black. Oakland put runners on base in every inning but two, and loaded the bases in the third, but couldn’t bring a run home. Mike Moore was his typical dominant self, not allowing a hit until the seventh inning. But in the top of the ninth, Brook Jacoby walked and scored from first base on Joe Carter’s two-out double to break the scoreless tie. The A’s went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth.
