The A’s won another series, but couldn’t pick up any ground by taking two out of three against the Rangers. Mark McGwire homered in both wins, including an extra-innings shot in the middle game that proved to be the game-winner. After 128 games, the A’s remain three wins behind pace.

August 22: The Rangers scored four in the first, with the big hit being a bases-loaded double by Pete Incaviglia. That was all Nolan Ryan would need, as he would keep the A’s at bay for seven innings. It was 6-0 when Oakland finally got on the board in the eighth as Carney Lansford had an RBI single and Dave Henderson drove in a run with his second double.
