August 29: The A’s overcame a couple of one-run deficits. Carney Lansford’s RBI single tied it at one in the sixth, and Dave Parker’s solo homer tied it at two in the seventh. Oakland then got the go-ahead run in the eighth as Tony Phillips led off with a walk and later scored on Rickey Henderson’s single. The A’s bullpen had to keep pitching out of trouble to save the one-run win.

August 30: Mike Moore was his usual dominant self and finally got some run support. He tossed a one-hit shutout for his 14th win, giving up just a fifth-inning single to Jesse Barfield. The Yankees didn’t get a runner into scoring position until the ninth inning. Oakland lit up former teammates Eric Plunk and Greg Cadaret. Carney Lansford and Dave Henderson got things off to a good start with RBI singles in the first inning. Lansford had a bases-loaded walk in the fourth. Walt Weiss drove in two with a double in the fifth. Terry Steinbach and Tony Phillips had back-to-back RBI singles in the seventh.
