September 12: Milwaukee took a 4-0 lead in the top of the sixth after B.J. Surhoff’s two-run single. Oakland’s offense finally got going in the bottom of the sixth thanks for the Brewer defense, as two runs scored on an error. Dave Henderson singled and scored on Rickey Henderson’s sacrifice fly in the seventh to make it 4-3. But Brewer pitchers retired the final nine Oakland batters. The A’s scored their three runs on only two hits.

September 13: Oakland took a 2-0 lead in the third on Dave Parker’s two-run homer, but Milwaukee’s Rob Deer did the same in the fourth to tie it. That was it for the Brewers, however, and the A’s would score repeatedly the rest of the way. Carney Lansford regained the lead for Oakland with a two-RBI single in the fourth, Mark McGwire hit a solo homer in the fifth, Lansford drove in another run with a single in the sixth, and Jose Canseco hit a two-run shot in the eighth. Dave Stewart improved to 18-8 with another good performance.
